Radio 1’s Sound of 2023 is a longlist of artists who are expected to do great things in the next year. As part of the 20th anniversary, the brief was to refresh and redefine the social branding whilst maintaining a consistent relationship with the BBC’s new chameleon brand guidelines. The deliverables included a badge/sticker to overlay onto content, a longlist carousel, videos for TikTok, Reels and IGS, and composite images of all 10 artists. The results were shared across the talent Instagram and TikTok profiles.

2. BIG WEEKEND FESTIVAL

A short turn-around brief to produce graphics to release set times for the Big Weekend Dundee music festival. All of the design and motion were informed by retro VHS game and TV graphics.

Furthermore, as part of the deliverables, BBC were interested in reformatting the designed templates for artist syndication. A cross-functional response was created to work for single and group press shots using a simple photo manipulation.

3. LIVE LOUNGE MONTH

Radio 1 wanted a refresh on their socials for Live Lounge Month. The brief was to create an Instagram carousel template that would be used to build content for each of the artists performing. The result was more inventive and enticing posts, atypical from the usual style we see on Radio 1’s account. Some of the assets appeared on the likes of Willow Smith, Sabrina Carpenter and BTS Instagram pages. As a positive and well-received rollout, these posts have now been introduced as part of not only Live Lounge Month, but Live Lounge’s that occur across the year.
